Why file a report?

Why file a report?

Swiss authorities are typically unaware of the discrimination or threats that immigrants face on account of their faith or because they have converted to a different religion. By filing a report, you are giving us the opportunity to support you practically, such as getting in touch with the relevant federal authorities on your behalf. Your report also enables us to continue raising awareness of this important issue.

In recent years we’ve received numerous reports about incidents of intimidation or physical violence on account of divergent beliefs. These take place in federal centers for asylum seekers, public spaces, or schools. Neither the police nor the immigration authorities keep a record of attacks based on religious grounds. For this reason, we have no way of assessing how widespread this problem really is. It is really important for us to receive these kinds of reports, because it will allow us to inform the Swiss authorities and respond accordingly.

If you encounter problems at a transit center for immigrants or a federal center for asylum seekers, it’s important you notify the applicable authorities. In case you have already tried to do so but did not receive the kind of response you deemed appropriate or you have not yet reported the incident, please complete our form and we will work with you on finding a solution.

How is your report handled?

As soon as we receive a report, we determine the best course of action. If the report is submitted in German, French, or English, we commit to responding within seven working days by getting in touch with the person who filed the report. If a report is submitted in any other language, we commit to responding within two weeks. Together with you, we discern what steps will be needed to improve the situation or solve the problem.

When you file a report, please indicate your sense of urgency about the situation. At times it may be nearly impossible to find an immediate solution. However, we commit to supporting you to the best of our abilities. If the situation poses an imminent threat to your life or well-being, please contact the police immediately by dialling 117 throughout Switzerland.
